Our first book

When you decide start a book club, there's a lot of pressure on the first book. If it stinks, will anyone come back for Book Two? Will we even make it through to the end? With that in mind, I knew we had to come out of the gate with a winner. But this is a book club, not a book dictatorship, so I turned the choice over to our first two members, Charlotte and Sadie. I gave them four choices, and they deliberated for what felt like many days, sometimes politely, other times... less politely. At one point I calmly told them that if they couldn't decide on a book, maybe this book club wasn't such a brilliant idea after all.

But, when it was time to finally make a choice, they pulled together. Or maybe Sadie just gave up.

Our first book is The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin! We'll report back when and if we finish.
